Heavy timbers are being used to support and repair Notre Dame de Paris as the famous cathedral is being restored. Most of the flying buttresses and support arches are being reinforced with custom fabricated timber trusses. The bolted connections and mortise & tenon joints are being fabricated using a Hundegger K2 milling station. The photograph is of the contractor’s off-site plant in France showing the trusses in various stages of completion, with the K2 station in the famous Hundegger colors shown on the right of the picture. The photo below shows the custom timber trusses in place under the flying buttresses of the cathedral’s choir.
